It seems whenever anyone hears the word ‘healthy’, they are immediately discouraged. The media depicts grueling boot camps and a big fat no to treats in order to reach optimum health or your desired figure. But in an age where obesity is on the up, the need and pressure to live a healthy lifestyle are on. However, this doesn’t mean to say you have to put your body through hell. There are multiple ways of having fun with both exercising and cooking; the two key elements to reaching your ultimate health objective.
The gym. It’s a phrase most amateur exercisers dread. But why not turn the gym into something exciting, where you’ll look forward to going. You’re in control of what your body does – so don’t just jump right onto a treadmill, hating the whole experience, have a look at what classes and activities are being held. Don’t despair, exercise doesn’t have to be boring – if you were to do just as little as 5-10 minutes of aerobics you’d feel the instant benefit of the endorphin rush.
With classes that specialists in dance, boxing, yoga, cycling and many more, there really is something for everyone to get stuck into. Additionally, if like myself, you’re very family orientated -get them involved. It will seem easier if the loved ones around you are making changes too. Organize an active weekend away, mountain climbing, or simply a country walk – every little help.
When it comes to food, no carbs and a shedload of lettuce is not the only route. If you’re a fan of pub grub or just generally dining out, a health kick shouldn’t have to bring that to a halt. It’s all about choosing your meals wisely, opting for a chicken/fish salad over a beef burger is, I’d hope, a no brainer.
Make sure you fill up on veggies so that you won’t get tempted by the alluring dessert menu pubs/restaurants offer. Although if you’ve had a successful few weeks, why not reward yourself with a small indulgence to push you on further. This way, you won’t have to compromise your social life in the process of changing your health habits.
There is a myriad of interesting recipes out there that can make the most simple ingredients taste phenomenal.
