A lot of people initially fail at losing weight, and many of them wonder why. Are they lazy? Are they simply addicted to food? Is it because they are not an expert at exercise? The answer to all of these questions is no. In truth, there are several different reasons you might not be able to lose weight.

Why Most People Fail at Losing WeightTo begin with, many people do not realize how unhealthy it is to be overweight, especially in terms of risks to your overall health. A lot of people simply want to lose weight in order to look thinner and while that is undeniably beneficial, getting and staying is the most important reason. We have to realize that thousands of people die every year, from factors that can be traced back to their being overweight.

Another reason many people fail to lose weight is because they are not willing or ready to make a commitment to making permanent changes in their lifestyles. They think that a diet can be a temporary means to achieve a permanent result, and that does not make any sense no matter how you look at it. But that is partially because these people may be on a diet that makes them cut certain foods completely out of their diet, which in turn makes them miserable; when they are miserable, they are far more likely to fail. Because it is essential to make gradual changes in your diet that involve good choices, moderation, and healthy foods, no matter what food group they belong to, these diets will rarely work. It is better to make a permanent commitment, because only that can result in permanent weight loss.

The third reason that so many people are not able to lose weight is because they do not know all the essential facts about weight loss and leading an overall healthy lifestyle. It is no wonder since there is so much conflicting information available on the subject. Diet fads and crash diets make it easy to be confused, so it pays to inform yourself, because research and knowledge will result in ultimate, long lasting success.

The fourth reason people fail to lose weight is because they do not realize that they are either gaining fat at a consistent rate or losing fat. This is a black and white issue, there is no grey; there is no middle ground. Weight loss is a study of extremes so it is either one or the other. You have to decide which you want to do and then take the proper steps, otherwise you will be doing the other by sheer default.

Lastly, too few people pay attention to what they are consuming every day. They do not think anything of consuming extra calories and fatty foods, up into the thousands.
