Hoodia information
General information on Hoodia and facts …
What is Hoodia
Hoodia Gordonii
Hoodia (also called Hoodia Gordonii) is a cactus-like succulent plant discovered originally in South Africa, Kalahari Desert. Later it also had been found in other African countries like Namibia and Zimbabwe. It can grow about 1 meter tall and it has flowers which smell like rotten meat. There are 13 types of Hoodia but we are interested in this one particularly – Hoodia Gordonii.
Uses of Hoodia (Hoodia Gordonii)
Mainly, Hoodia was used as natural appetite suppressant by the natives of Kalahari. They consumed the plant to suppress their appetite during long hunting trips and to maintain their body energy.
Later, Western scientists discovered that purified extract of Hoodia Gordonii which was called P57 was responsible for appetite suppression. This active ingredient in our days is used in diet pills to give them natural appetite suppression properties.
How Hoodia works
Simply speaking, active ingredient P57 makes your brain think that you’re full and you don’t feel hunger. It’s proven that P57 is 10000 as active as glucose. Certain nerve cells in the brain sense glucose sugars and when certain level of these sugars is reached “stop” signal is released to say that you’re full. P57 imitates glucose and sends “stop” signal to your brain almost instantly.
